What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces the length and volume of an elongated or asymmetrical labia minora (inner labia) and/or labia majora (outer labia) to achieve improved comfort, sexual satisfaction, symmetry and preferred appearance. It has seen an increase in popularity and demand in Australia and throughout the world. The outcome of labiaplasty can differ with each individual, depending on their unique presentation and aesthetic desire. Patients will often find significant improvements in sexual satisfaction both for themselves and for their partner. There are two main reasons why one may seek labiaplasty – cosmetic and functional. Labiaplasty offers an aesthetic appearance of the labia that allows women to exercise, be active and engage in sexual intimacy without the discomfort of certain anatomical irregularities related to the vulva.

Dr. Lee utilises two gold standard approaches – the trim technique and the wedge technique.
During trim labiaplasty at Glamour Cosmetic Surgery, an incision is made to remove the outer elongated edges of the inner labia. This improves symmetry by making the inner labia flush and even with the outer labia while removing redundant tissue.
One of the most desirable effects of the trim technique is that it eliminates the darkest pigmented part of the labia. For many women, removal of the darker edges is an important cosmetic reason why they choose to have labiaplasty.
The wedge technique is a newer alternative to trim labiaplasty. During this method, Dr Lee plans carefully to make precise incisions, removing a V-shaped “wedge” from each side of the labia minora and then sutures the remaining edges together.
Benefits to the wedge technique include maintaining natural anatomy, preserving the external border of the inner labia and the technique avoids stitches, hence no scars along the external border.
Clitoral hood reduction is often performed alongside a labiaplasty. Also called a hoodectomy, this surgical procedure reduces the size of the clitoral hood by trimming away excess tissue. Typically, the clitoral hood covers the clitoris to protect it from external irritation and friction. For some women, however, excess skin overhanging the clitoral area may cause discomfort, infections and decreased sexual enjoyment. Clitoral hood reduction can be performed on its own or as part of a larger procedure. At Glamour Cosmetic Surgery, the best way to determine which surgical approach is best suited for you is to discuss your concerns and goals with Dr Lee during the consultation and planning.
